1. I'm a halfsie, so people in locales without many (or any) Filipinos have no idea where I'm from and people who know a lot of Filipinos don't think I look Filipino at all.
2. Our country has 7,000 + islands. 7,000. That is sooooo much coastline. Which means soo many pretty places.
3. We actually invented the karoke machine. No, really. I mean, I think so... And then we perfected the cover song to the rest of the world's despair. Despite this, we provide some serious talent and entertainment to the rest of the world - be it Lea Salonga or inmates doing Michael Jackson Flash Mobs.
4. We may not be the most well-known Asian country, or the one in the family who "has it all together" but we're definitely resilient and cheerful regardless.
5. The Food. A wonderfully eclectic mishmash of ingenious, Spanish, Chinese, Moro, American, and Japanese techniques and ingredients it's really hard to put your finger on it. Say what you will - sad people who have had negative Pinoy Food experiences -
any country with exquisite mangoes,
spaghetti with hot dogs,
and purple ice cream is okay by me.
Also, we have a national institute just for the study and development of new types of rice.
6. Our national martial arts training starts with stick and knife fighting, because Filipinos thought it might be a better idea to go at the other guy with something other than just your hands. Also, we have a lot of bamboo.
"I love the idea of going to work and having to fight and learn a new skill set, whether it's muay Thai or Kali or Filipino stick fighting. To me, it's like college for life."
7. We make gorgeous fabric FROM PINEAPPLE FIBER. Take that Milan.
Really Gorgeous.
8. We have some wicked awesome tattoo designers who are bringing back the traditional designs.
9. We're cheesy. I don't think I could handle being grownup and serious all the time. We are definitely not afraid to laugh at ourselves - and sometimes, other people. We can even be humorous about less than humorous things...
