This of course means Jae Suk gets a line-up of Kdrama idols, including the particularly tall Kim Woo Bin and his real-life (if the netizens are to be believed) best-friend, Lee Jong Suk.
CNBLUE Lead Guitarist, LeeJong Hyun is along for the ride (to laugh of course. See Ep. 40), as well an indignant Kim Soo Ro (of A Gentleman's Dignity), who wants to know why they’re going to automatically lose.
Part of the genius of this episode comes from the “unexpected results” of each challenge. I could care less to what degree they’ve been scripted (see this fantastic piece on scripting in Running Man by http://leonhart90.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-art-of-scripting-on-running-man.html ), their comic reactions are hilarious.
(Kim Soo Ro, Lee Jong Suk, Kim Woo Bin, Lee
Jong Hyun, Min Hyo Rin) March 24, 2013
The cartoon opening does a great job of setting the whole "high-school drama theme" and capturing the cast's particular expressions. |
I won’t lie, this is probably one of my all-time favorites. Possibly, because this was one of the first
episodes I ever watched and consequently, the one that got me hook, line, and
sinker into Running Man.
So basically (in a common
concept), the theme of the episode is a combination of
A Gentleman’s Dignity and School 2013, two kdramas which I later watched and then
realized … oh hey, that’s what they were going on about.
"Blank-Ji" - Song Ji Hyo appears to not even be fully conscious at the start of the first challenge, a name-tag-elimination. |
The guests, with the exception of Min Hyo Rin
starred on either show (or in the case of the charismatic Kim Woo Bin – both.) The Running Men, with the exception of Yoo
Jae Suk are put on the “Athletic Club” team and “poor” Jae Suk is relegated to
the “Theatre Club” because “he couldn’t put aside his desire to act.”
Naturally, I am totally biased towards the theatre team before I even see the guests because:
The Athletic Club flaunts their prowess. |

2.
Yoo Jae Suk!!

Oh Look! Idols so shiny in their totally regulation - ha- uniforms. Oh, and Kim Soo Ro. |

The Athletic Club argues over who's the Captian, until Kim Joon Kook shows up. |
The game starts out with Name
Tag Elimination, which I had never seen up to this point and I immediately
thought – All games of tag should be more like this. Part of the particular appeal with Running
Man is also the commentary, all done in colorful hangul flashing across the
screen (hilarious English subs for the rest of us), often accompanied with
cheesy icons and CG.
There’s nothing
like some appropriate theme music to underscore the terror of running away from “The
Tiger" (or as he's commonly known, Kim Jong Kook.)
The laws of variety state: Everything's funnier in a pool. |
Also, without ruining the entire
episode, I’ve never seen a man eat a bar of chocolate that fast. Oh yeah, and the idol team with Jae Suk. They’re pretty darn awesome.
When inhaling a freezing ice cream bar, hold a friend and jump up and down. |
Going away now to let you just watch it.
